WhyWeRun is not a race — it’s a movement. A five-day, 250km journey where personal endurance meets shared purpose.

Out here, you don’t run for time or a place. You run for something bigger: to change lives — including your own. Together, we raise vital funds for bigmoose, a charity transforming mental health support.

You’ll push your body beyond what you thought possible. You’ll confront and overcome mental barriers. And through it all, you’ll be surrounded by an extraordinary community of people running not just for themselves, but for each other.

It will be one of the hardest things you’ve ever done yet one of the most rewarding. A truly life-changing experience that will stay with you long after the final step.

Through wild landscapes, long days, and moments of raw emotion, you’ll be reminded: we are stronger when we move together. And when we run with purpose, we can go further than we ever imagined.

This is WhyWeRun. Are you ready to join us?

  • Where?

    St Davids, Wales.
Our route follows sections of the stunning Welsh Coastal Path — expect rugged cliffs, golden beaches, rolling countryside, and abundant wildlife.

  • When?

    Second week of September.
Late summer offers ideal conditions for adventure — long days, crisp mornings, and the beauty of the Welsh coastline at its best.

  • Distance?

    250km over 5 days.
Distances vary daily, but the true challenge lies within. Each lap is a test of resilience, teamwork, and determination to keep moving forward together.

  • Terrain?

    60% coastal trail, 40% road.
Varied and undulating. Runners should be prepared for both smooth road miles and technical coastal paths.

  • Elevation?

    6,900 metres of climbing.
Rolling elevation throughout the week — be ready for tired legs and breathtaking views in equal measure.

  • Participants?

    Strictly limited places.
WhyWeRun is small by design — you’ll know your fellow runners by name, and finish as part of one incredible team.

"It takes a certain kind of person to sign up for these distances, and many of us arrived as strangers. But every morning, every lap, and every evening, we lifted each other. From barely being able to shuffle around camp to dancing and tackling 6000 meters of elevation - it’s amazing what you can achieve when you’re surrounded by inspirational people. In your lowest moments, there was always someone to give you the energy you needed. I’ve made so many connections and can’t wait for future events. For me that’s WhyWeRun."

"This is so difficult, I think you’d need a book to do it justice. It’s a journey of growth and discovery, it’s a celebration of bigmoose and everything they stand for. It’s a bond building week you never knew was possible. It feels like a dream!"

"The true meaning of community, acceptance and support, in a space with the capacity to help you understand your purpose and push beyond your limits."

Fundraising expectations

WhyWeRun is about more than covering 250km, it’s about making a real difference in people’s lives.

Each participant is asked to raise a minimum of £500 for our charity partner bigmoose, supporting vital mental health initiatives.

Many participants choose to go far beyond this target, and we encourage this with incentives!

You won’t be fundraising alone, we’ll provide you with:

  • fundraising guide with ideas and resources
  • community support and shared tips
  • personal fundraising page to make it easy to share your journey

Every pound you raise helps fund life-changing support for those who need it most. Together, our community has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds, and your efforts will continue that incredible impact.

Your miles will matter, and so will your fundraising.

You won’t be running alone, every step you take will change lives. Ready to get started?

The Course

We do things a little differently — and we think you’ll love it.
Two iconic Welsh loops, each with its own adventure and moments to savour.
You’ll cross paths with fellow runners, share high-fives, and soak up the atmosphere that makes this event so special.
Once you’ve tried it, you’ll never think of loops the same way again.

Route 1: Blue Lagoon

Route 1: Blue Lagoon

The shorter of the two loops — but without doubt the most spectacular. You’ll take in some of the finest sections of the Welsh Coastal Path, passing the famous Blue Lagoon and the charming fishing port of Porthgain, before looping back on the road and rejoining the coastal path to return to camp. A shared segment of this route means you’ll regularly pass and encourage fellow runners — a true team atmosphere.

15 km per lap
322 m elevation per lap
Route 2: Whitesands

Route 2: Whitesands

A longer and more technical loop through wild and varied terrain. Starting with a 7.5 km road section, you’ll climb towards the base of Carn Llidi, circling the peak before picking up the coastal path through Pembrokeshire Coast National Park — keep an eye out for wild horses. The route finishes with a road return to camp, completing a loop full of contrasts and big views.

19 km per lap
439 m elevation per lap

"WhyWeRun is much more than a test of endurance or a charity event. It's an opportunity for deep connection and shared vulnerability. Running side by side with others I learned that it’s not about how fast you go but about the bonds you form and the growth you experience along the way. It pushed me physically and to explore emotionally, leaving me feeling more whole and profoundly grateful for the sense of community and the lessons I learnt along the way. Taking part changes you for the better, but with a connected sense of purpose you can hobble away knowing you've also made an impact on the world by doing so. "

"WhyWeRun is all the best bits of life squeezed into a run, people, connection, care, adventure, inspiration, discovery, challenge, transformation, pain and joy. I think everyone should give themselves the gift of the opportunity to run 250km with strangers and see who they meet along the way and at the other side. It felt brutally beautiful, it felt like a bubble of some of the kindness people I have ever met, it felt life changing."
