How It Started
"Because running changes lives."

Born from a Promise to Give Back
At the start of 2022, ultra-runner Lewis Robling set out on an extraordinary mission:
to run a total of 1,250 kilometres, across five continents, and raise £25,000 for bigmoose, a charity providing life-changing early intervention therapy for those in need.
Bigmoose had been there for Lewis in 2020, when he needed them most.
Now, this was his opportunity to give back.
A Journey of Resilience
By August 2022, Lewis had already completed three of the five planned 250km multistage ultramarathons.
Two remained — Jordan and Mexico.
Plans were in place, and the final races would be a chance to hit the fundraising goal.
Renee McGregor, a close friend of Lewis and bigmoose, had committed to run Mexico alongside him — her first 250km multistage event.
But with just 9 weeks to go, Mexico was cancelled.

When a Challenge Became an Opportunity
Refusing to accept defeat, Lewis and Renee saw opportunity in the chaos.
They joined forces and, with just weeks to go, created something entirely new — an event of their own.
WhyWeRun was born.
What was meant to be a one-off adventure soon resonated far beyond what we imagined.
It became clear there was a powerful opportunity to bring people together — and to continue raising vital funds for bigmoose.
A New Chapter — The Growth of WhyWeRun
After the first event, Renee returned to her coaching and speaking commitments.
James Cooke — originally part of the community as a runner — joined Lewis to help bring WhyWeRun to life.
From 2023 onwards, James took on the role of Event Director & Operations, driving the project forward.
Today, WhyWeRun is more than just a challenge.
It is a community. A place where people run with purpose — for themselves, for others, and for causes they care about.

WhyWeRun
Because running changes lives.
Because together, we can do more than we ever imagined.
Because this is our Why.
